KUCCPS Opens University Placement Portal; How to Apply.
Students seeking to apply for their preferred degree courses can now do so after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) officially opened its application portal.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, April 7, by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba following a closed-door meeting with KUCCPS officials led by CEO Agnes Wahome.
Ogamba called on the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates to apply for their preferred courses through the official KUCCPS portal: kuccps.net/login
While inviting eligible applicants who scored C+ and above to apply for various degree courses, the CS noted that the application window would remain open for the next four weeks until May 6, 2026.

“This afternoon, I received a brief on the 2026/2027 Academic Year placement cycle from KUCCPS. The KUCCPS team, led by the Board Chair, Cyrus Gituai and the CEO, Agnes Wahome, apprised me of the preparations for this cycle’s placement,” Ogamba announced.
Adding, “The placement cycle has officially opened today, with the KUCCPS placement portal remaining open until May 6, 2026.”
How to Apply
KCSE candidates seeking to apply for their preferred course were urged to visit the KUCCPS portal: kuccps.net/login
Upon accessing the application portal, an applicant will be prompted to enter their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) index number, KCSE year, and password.
Students have been advised to use their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) index number or birth certificate number as their password.

According to KUCCPS, the list of institutions includes a total of 42 public universities and the Open University of Kenya, which qualify for both government scholarships and HELB loans.
On the other hand, 30 private universities have been listed as eligible for HELB loans only, meaning students admitted to these institutions will not receive government scholarships.
A spot check conducted by teachersonline.co.ke established that the placement body had uploaded all the degree programmes against the 2024 cut-off points to be used by the 2025 KCSE candidates during the 2026 application cycle.
The courses have been categorised into 20 distinct clusters, each with varying competitiveness based on the demand, available slots and institution capacity.
